Back to Basics

It took me a long time and a lot of wasted cash to realise that the base of your wardrobe is your basics. I live in basics everyday. I love them. They are easy and you can never go with a basic black, white or grey shirt. I occasionally like to mix it up with a red or blue shirt. If you put a basic shirt with some fitted jeans paired with some cute converse, ballet flats or sandals you have yourself a pretty effortless, timeless and cool outfit.

Obviously, when an occasion rises and it’s no longer appropriate for me to wear just a few basics I will take advantage of the situation to dress up. However, it is always reassuring to have those basics that can never go wrong. Also, if you ever find yourself buying statement pieces such as a skirt, or a particular jacket having those few basics in wardrobe always gives you something to fall back on without having to buy another piece of clothing to match.

Goodbye Summer, I’ll see you again

As summer comes to an end, I review the must have summer essentials. Summer as a whole means you have longer days, no study commitments and occasional work shifts. This results in having a lot of spare time to be with yourself, hang with friends and go to the beach, of course. I spent my summer travelling so my travel expenses took a look out of my pocket, compared to my usual purchases of material values (and food). However, I found with a few good every day items that went with most of my wardrobe I was always confident in what I was wearing. Here are a few of my basic summer essentials –

Love is in the air

If someone was to ask me to name the five things that I loved most, I would have to say the colours red and pink, flowers, my beautiful blonde Labrador Lucy, fashion and the idea of being in love. When I say the idea of being in love, I don’t just mean with someone but also something. The idea of falling in love with that perfect pair of shoes that you lay-by and pay off with every pay check that you receive, or being in love with that particular meal where every mouthful melts in your mouth is simply delightful. To love something, or to be in love always brings such happiness whether it’s a simple text message from the person you love instantly brightening up any mood or if you have a love of fashion and you purchase those items that you’ve been dying to have brings an instant sense of satisfaction.

Here are a few things that I would LOVE to have, inspired by a few of my favourite things –

Back to the start

As university starts next week I start to say Goodbye to breakfasts in bed, lazy days in the sun, reading fictional novels and long boozy dinners. However, every semester when university begins it always sparks this internal desire to organise my life and to set out to make some goals. I tell myself I will continue to go the gym, I will get an above distinction average, try to eat healthier and I will try remain organised. Just before I go back to uni I always use my last dollars saved from my summer job to buy a few little things to contribute with these goals. My purchases will range from anything from a Moleskine notebook for my lectures, to another new Longchamp bag to carry my bits and bobs to and from uni, to even a new pair of comfortable ballet flats to look at while waiting for public transport. As my late, lazy mornings in bed turn into early mornings with a green tea to go I always get a thrill when I put these little items to good use.

Check out my Wish list for university –
